| It's the folk music of the science fiction/fantasy fan community, but there's a lot more to it than that. As Nick Smith of the LA Filkharmonics once put it: Well, it's sort of like folk music. It is a mixture of song parodies and original music, humorous and serious, about subjects like science fiction, fantasy, computers, cats, politics, the space program, books, movies, TV shows, love, war, death. . . As with many another living tradition, if you ask five filkers for a definition you will likely get eight answers, some of which you can find here, but the purpose of this page is to help you get at some examples and judge for yourself what you think of it. All of these songs are present on the net with the consent of the artists. |
